Wireless Upgrade

Compatibility

The case and PCB in your existing Cyboard must both be compatible in order to use this upgrade.

Case Compatibility

The case must have 2x USB-C ports on each half (using USB-C for both the split-interconnect and the connection to the host device). If your Cyboard has RJ-12 for the split interconnect, it is not compatible with this upgrade.

PCB Compatibility

Open the bottom case of your keyboard and check the type of keyboard PCBs you have. The Assimilator BT wireless upgrade is compatible with keyboards that use the Dendrite flexible PCB to connect the key switch PCBs to the controller.

note

If you have any non-standard modifications to your PCB (i.e. encoders, underglow strips, or anything else soldered to the controller), swapping everything over will require soldering and firmware editing, but it is still possible for advanced users.

Installation Instructions

Upgrade Video

Check out this video of the upgrade process, or read on below for instructions.

Remove Wired Assimilator

  1. Remove the bottom plate.
  2. Remove the screw from the Assimilator
  3. Disconnect the the Dendrite by flipping the tab open on the connector, then sliding the Dendrite out.
  4. If present, disconnect the FFC (Flat Flexible Cable) for the trackball sensor by sliding the collar outwards, then sliding the FFC out.

Install Wireless Assimilator BT

  1. Connect the Dendrite by sliding it into the connector and flipping the tab down over it.
  2. Connect the battery by snapping its connector downwards into the socket on the Assimilator BT.
    3rd-Party Batteries

Ensure that the polarity is correct. HAC-006 Nintendo Switch batteries should all be compatible, but it doesn't hurt to double-check. The red wire should go to the positive +and the black wire to negative -.

  3. If adding a trackball, connect the FFC by sliding the connector collar out, sliding the FFC in, and sliding the collar back snug against the connector.
  4. Add the clear plastic power switch cover to the case from the inside. It can help to tilt the board away from you so that gravity holds the switch cover in place while you install the PCB behind it.
    Asymmetrical Power Switch Cover

the power switch cover has a wide side that should be oriented upward to avoid collision with the support struts inside the case.

  5. Install the Assimilator BT, taking care to slot the power switch on the PCB into the slot on the power switch cover, then install the screw. Nowe
  6. Secure the battery inside the case using the provided double sided foam tape. Find an area that is relatively flat and not right up against anything sharp, like the corner of the Assimilator BT.
  7. Test the function of the controller.
    1. Turn the power switch on. It should blink blue indicating that it is ready for firmware to be flashed.
    2. Plug the USB cable in. It should light up red indicating that the battery is charging.

Trackball Sensor Swap

  1. Remove the PMW3360 sensor and it's lens. (The lens will likely stay attached to the PCB.)
  2. Place the clear plastic lens adapter into the trackball housing. The flat side should face the trackball and the gap in the rim should be towards the USB port.
  3. Install the FFC into the PMW3610 sensor, then screw it into place. The Cyboard logo fingers should be pointing towards the USB port. The lens should be flat and retained by the lens adapter.
