Reset Your Keyboard's Pairing

Sometimes the fix for a wireless problem is to wipe the keyboard's stored settings and start clean — most often when:

  • the two halves stop talking to each other,
  • you swapped or replaced a controller (Assimilator), or
  • a Bluetooth pairing is stuck in a way that clearing a single profile didn't fix.

You do this by flashing a special settings-reset firmware onto each half. It boots once, erases the stored settings, and does nothing else — then you flash your normal firmware back on.

This erases saved settings

A settings reset clears all stored settings on the keyboard: Bluetooth pairings, the selected output, RGB color, and so on. Your keymap is not affected — it's part of the firmware you flash back afterward. You will need to pair with your devices again.

What you'll need​

  • The settings-reset firmware for your keyboard (below).
  • Your normal firmware — the same files you'd use for a firmware update. Download these before you start, so you have them ready.
  • A USB-C data cable.

Get the settings-reset firmware​

The settings-reset firmware for the wireless Imprint and Dactyl (both use the Assimilator controller) ships alongside our normal firmware on GitHub. The same file resets both halves. The button below always fetches the newest version:

You can also grab it from the firmware release notes (the settings_reset.uf2 asset). Have your normal firmware ready too — the same files from the firmware update guide — so you can flash it straight back afterward.

Reset procedure​

Do this for every half of the keyboard. Flash the reset firmware to all halves first, then flash the normal firmware back — don't finish one half before starting the other.

  1. Flash the reset firmware to each half. For each half: double-tap the reset button next to the USB-C port to bring up the ASSIMILATOR drive, then drag settings_reset.uf2 onto it. (See Flashing Issues if the drive doesn't appear.)
  2. Flash your normal firmware back to each half — the matching left file to the left half, right file to the right half — the same way.
  3. Power-cycle both halves at about the same time. Turn both power switches off, then both on. Flipping them together helps the halves find and re-pair with each other.
  4. Re-pair with your devices. Because the reset cleared the keyboard's bonds, also Forget / Remove the old Cyboard entry in each host's Bluetooth settings, then pair fresh. See Connection Issues if a host is stubborn.
Why Bluetooth goes quiet mid-reset

The reset firmware keeps Bluetooth switched off on purpose, so the two halves don't try to re-pair before you've reset them both. Your keyboard won't appear in any Bluetooth list until you've flashed the normal firmware back on — that's expected.

Did it work?​

After flashing the normal firmware back and power-cycling, both halves should type and the keyboard should advertise for pairing again. If a half is still dead or the two won't sync, run through the procedure once more, making sure you reset both halves before flashing the normal firmware — then reach out on Discord if it persists.
